Basically, bear skulls are the way bears are "scored" by B&C and P&Y....keep the skull protected and have it scored by an official certified by either of these two!

Tom Remington posted a story and very impressive picture of a black bear killed by a combine (?) in Wisconsin recently. Seems it weighed 625 +/- pounds with no innards.

Best way to determine size is to measure and weigh them shortly after the killing. As for "trophies" Google it.

Hey, all. My dad recently got a black bear and we've been trying to find information on how to determine their size. Also we were curious to find out what sizes are considered "trophies". He didn't bring the whole bear back w/ him, as it was too big for all 4 to lift. But he's having the head and shoulders mounted as we speak. Please send me an email if anyone knows anything. Thanks.
