The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been petitioned to consider placing the polar bear as threatened on the Endangered Species List. The petition showed several statistics mostly pertaining to the effects of global warming that is reducing habitat and hunting grounds of the bear. One study suggests that at the present rate, if nothing is done, the bears will be extinct in 100 years.
