Sprouting up around America, the Black Bear Blog has several interested hunters looking to do what they can to get the word out about important events that affect us all. For example, in Michigan, Rich Hare, who also contributes articles at Michigan Hunting Today, has been keeping a close eye on the Department of Natural Resources proposal to put the price of hunting licenses fees through the roof.
A short while ago, Rich sent me this update.
Hi Tom,
Got a little news for you on the Michigan DNR’s proposed huge budget increase. Due to the massive outcry from sportsmen the DNR was unable to find anyone to sponsor the proposal. Consequently, it never made it to the floor. 2007 sportsmens licenses go on sale March 1st, same as other years. They will cost the same as 2006 licenses.
DNR Director Humphries continues her lobbying effort, now seeking a compromise on the proposal…which based on current information is the same huge increase proposal…in increments. She still thinks she’s smarter than the people she’s trying to hoodwink!
A little antidote for you…some Michigan “intellectuals” thought they’d get a jump on things before the proposed license increases went into affect. when January 1, 2007 rolled-around they rushed out and bought new licenses. Never noticed they were last years licenses!
The DNR doesn’t want to risk any more public contempt and has vowed to refund their money!
Sincerely,
Rich Hare
