On Wednesday I announced that Alaska’s governor Palin was implementing a $150 bounty on wolves in their predator control program areas. There are five of them. Alaska’s goal for wolf reduction in these areas in not nearly as high as was hoped. Much of that has to do with the price hunters are getting for pelts. That amount has shrunk to between $200 and $300 making the effort less appealing. The governor hopes that with an added $150 bounty to the purse, it will motivate more hunters.

Consequently and coming as no surprise to anyone, the Humane Society of the United States has called for an immediate halt to the wolf killings. What they plan to do other than complain, is anyone’s guess.
