The Alaska state House of Representatives voted 30-9 to oppose the proposed listing of the polar bear as “threatened” on the Endangered Species Act list. Opponents are seeking other states to do the same saying a listing of such would be devastating to the nation’s economy. The Alaska senate has approved a similar measure opposing the listing.
Some scientists are saying that polar bear habitat – sea ice – is shrinking and attribute it to global warming. Panic as overspread this country about global warming, when there is still great derision among scientists as to whether any climate changes are part of normal weather cycles or are actually global warming as defined.
While some people are claiming a warming of the country, many parts are coming off one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record. Canada is also claiming that even though there may be areas of reduced ice for the polar bear, the bear is thriving and that a ban on hunting the bear would dry up the only monetary resources available to manage the bear.
