As part of the remaining fallout over the Jim Zumbo fiasco, noted outdoor writer Pat Wray, fired off a letter to Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign Against Gun Violence. Read the entire letter here. Here’s a clip.
The look-alikes enjoyed by the people who brought down Jim Zumbo are semi-automatic. The actions of their weapons are basically the same as those which power hundreds of models of semi-automatic shotguns and sporting rifles. They just look like the real thing. They are no more true assault rifles than you are Michael Jordan when you put on his jersey. They are neither military nor assault rifles, Paul. Perhaps, in the interest of truth you could explain these differences to your membership and stop using “military assault rifles.†I know you wouldn’t want to exploit the ignorance and fear of your members. Isn’t that what you claim the National Rifle Association does?
