Lynn Keogh, 42 of Anchorage, Alaska, has been released from the hospital having been treated for grizzly bear claw and bit marks. He and a companion were hunting grizzlies in the Oshetna River valley area. They had snowmobiled in to a cabin nearby.

The two hunters observed a bear near a den for as long as 5 hours and determined the bear was alone. Keogh shot the bear. They waited to make sure it was dead. Once they determined that, they approached the bear and when Keogh knelt down over the bear carcass, a bigger bear emerged from the den running straight for him.

He managed to get one shot at the bear before it mauled him but the shot didn’t kill the bear. His partner fired a shot from 20-30 feet away that finally killed the bigger bear.
