As we enter this presidential campaign and particularly now after the Virginia Tech killings, candidates are going to make every attempt to paint themselves in a light that might not be all that becoming to them. I’ve picked on Mitt Romney and Rudy Guiliani as being two republican candidates who are trying desperately to make people believe they are supporters of the Second Amendment. They are not.

I’ve talked some about Senator John McCain and former Senator Fred Thompson, who seem to understand most the Second Amendment. Today, it is Senator Barack Obama’s turn to annihilate the Second Amendment.

The Union Leader, out of New Hampshire, tells of comments made by Obama in New Hampshire and Iowa during his campaigning.

“I don’t hunt myself, but I respect hunters and sportsmen,” he said. “But I don’t know of any self-respecting hunter that needs 19 rounds of anything. You don’t shoot 19 rounds at a deer, and if you do, you shouldn’t be hunting.”

Well, he proved that he doesn’t respect hunters and sportsmen because if he did he wouldn’t have made an ignorant statement that any sportsman that has 19 rounds isn’t a self-respecting individual. Let’s get one thing straight and Mr. Obama, you need to pay attention here.

Most every state, if not all, does not allow a hunter to hunt with a weapon that holds more that 5 rounds. But this has absolutely nothing to do with the Second Amendment. Mr. Obama, the Second Amendment is NOT about hunting.

If you have never hunted as you state Senator, how can you make a statement that you shouldn’t be hunting if you need 19 rounds to shoot a deer or other animal?

What’s comical is that the writer of the article in the Union Leader made this statement.

You also don’t shoot deer with a handgun, but what has that to do with the 2nd Amendment? Absolutely nothing.

He’s right in that any aspect of hunting has nothing to do with the Second Amendment but the writer needs to get out a little bit. Hunters do shoot deer with a handgun. My very good friend and hunting buddy from Maine, this year tagged a nice trophy buck that he brought down with one shot from a .44 magnum revolver – that’s a handgun for those who might not know. Some states, and I believe Delaware is one such state, have a designated hunting season specifically for handguns. The point of the author is well taken though that the Second Amendment isn’t about hunting.

Obama continues.

“I’m a strong believer in the rights of hunters and sportsmen to have firearms. I’m a believer in homeowners having a firearm to protect their home and their family. It’s hard for me to find a rationale for having a 17-clip semiautomatic.”

He lies again. He is not a strong believer in the rights of hunters and sportsmen because he has already says he wants to have limits on that. It’s like saying I’m a strong supporter of fishing but you can only use a stick, string and a safety pin.

How generous of him to allow a homeowner to protect themselves. His idea would be like that of old Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith show. Barney carried a gun and kept one shiny silver bullet buttoned up inside his shirt pocket just in case he ever needed it.

You will notice that nowhere in Obama’s comments will he ever say that it is the “right” of Americans to keep and bear arms – never and that’s because he doesn’t believe it for one minute. He is the all powerful Senator, like many who have come before him and many more who will come after him, that believe they have the power and control to decide what are your rights and what aren’t.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Those who died at the hands of a mad man at Virginia Tech, never even had a choice to protect themselves. People like Obama, who think they know what’s best, take away our choices as free human beings and as a result, we sometimes die. I resent that. If Obama doesn’t believe that we as Americans have a right guaranteed us through the Constitution to own a gun, what other rights does he not believe in?

Rest assured that Mr. Obama is not the only candidate or politician who thinks this way. Most of the democrats are clamoring to hide behind some fake position on how they support guns because they want votes. They could care less about your rights. All they want is your vote and are willing to say anything to get it. Only problem is, their bias and ignorance of the facts and their belief that Americans are stupid, will find them out.

Former running mate of John Kerry in 2004, John Edwards, makes statements very similar to those of Obama.

John Edwards said last weekend, “I believe in the Second Amendment and I think it’s important for hunters’ rights to be protected. It’s part of my culture because of the way I grew up. But I don’t think you need an AK-47 to hunt. . . There’s some weapons that are not necessary for sportsmen and hunters.”

Well, Mr. Edwards, all I can say to your ignorance is that you don’t NEED a $400 haircut but as a free person, you have every right in the world to spend your money as you see fit. You also don’t NEED a gas guzzling automobile to hop around the countryside in.

There are many things we all don’t NEED to have but that’s beside the point. It’s not about need it’s about rights. Something he too obviously does not believe in.
