Quimby is currently holding private meetings with the Maine Snowmobile Association and Millinocket town officials. It has been publicly printed she is meeting with them, however the meeting contents have not been disclosed to date. Why meet with these constituents? What do they have in common? The ITS trail that crosses her property in 2 spots in the Katahdin Region.

Maybe the state won't end up with her holdings in T2 R8 and T3 R8. Its possible she is looking for support for her valley purchase and will try to get the Millinocket officials and MSA to help pressure the state in some way to help her out in exchange for keeping this major snowmobile artery open for use.

It is my understanding that the Wassataquoik Stream Valley Land is also cut off. This is one reason Gardner is looking to sell. Gardner Land Co. seems bent on keeping 140 employees working by cutting, selling, cutting, selling, etc.

Was any thought ever given to the future of the public lands sold to Gardner through the Baxter land swap? Did the state consider that Gardner will, more than likely, put the lands they acquired on the auction block once the timber has been stripped?

To think that Roxanne Quimby would sell the state her two existing parcels to end up with the Wassataquoik land in order to pacify the state and keep everyone happy, certainly does not fit Quimby's profile. I believe the last thing on her mind is what the state of Maine wants. I thinks it's more about what she wants.

Being that she seems to be completely in bed with RESTORE who wants to turn most of northern Maine and the entire northeast into a useless national park, I would find it hard to believe that Quimby would give up any of these lands, especially those adjacent to or near Baxter.

I believe that Quimby's purchases of land, the Baxter land swap deal and others are pretty much a orchestrated behind the scenes dirty dealings. I think that Quimby and the Baxter Authority worked together to make sure these lands didn't end up in anyone else's hands.

I would be shocked if your proposal, as interesting as it is, would come to fruition.

Recent discussions swirling on this news today seems to point to Roxanne Quimby ending up with the Wassataquoik Stream Valley Land. She wants it bad. She currently owns Township 2 Range 8 and Township 3 Range 8 in that area which has been cleared of its timber. It is useless to her and does not fit her portfolio profile of lands she seeks out.

However, these land holdings she currently has is very valuable to the economy for the communities in the Katahdin Region including Millinocket, East Millinocket and Medway.

Why?

The boundaries of Quimby's land jettison out into major snowmobile trails that interconnect the Katahdin Region and Aroostook County. This is the area's winter economy that is depended on so much. She has allowed snowmobiling across the small points that cut thru the ITS Trails System this year and will end that access this September across her land. With the fear of losing this major snowmobile artery this winter things will heat up to get a land deal done that fits everyones needs.

Here is where the State will make its "saviour splash". They will say they cannot afford Gardiners Land. Quimby will get the Valley Land from Gardner. Quimby will sell T2 R8 and T3 R8 to the state or a portion to Baxter Park possibly. This would make sense as some of this land borders the Katahdin Lake parcel. The state will end up allowing traditional access and use on these lands.

Everyone will be "happy", no?

Wagers? Thoughts? Comments?

Tom,

I have some nice photos in Katahdin Lake this winter I took while riding my snowmobile in there. I would certainly like to share them with you if you would like to display them in your columns.

I have snowmobiled in there legally for over 30 years. I made sure I had some good photos of the area as this could possibly the last period of access in that area.
