While I’m exposing some of our law enforcement agencies as not being the best stewards, here’s a story about the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives revoking the license to sell guns from Red’s Trading Post in Idaho. The BATFE claimed that after audits of RTP, they found numerous record keeping violations resulting in the revocation of their license.

But this week U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge said not so fast. He says his investigation shows the BATFE exaggerated and omitted findings in making its ruling against Red’s. The judge determined that some of the violations were counted twice and BATFE did not record the years of audits that showed no violations.

The judge stayed the restrictions placed on Red’s and will allow them to continue selling guns until he hears the case in a later hearing, not yet scheduled.

We don’t want illegal sales of guns but a U.S. District judge has found fault with methods used by BATFE to bully gun dealers. This is another example of why law enforcement give themselves a bad image.
