I have shot coyotes all my life, and I can guarantee you, if you shoot a few, even one, they will avoid that area as soon as they discover the carcass, of the blood trail. All you have to do to prove this is start shooting a few and you will find out for yourself. Try it. Simple evidence, simple proof! It's better not to hunt them - it keeps the population lower. Sorry - but hunting does nothing but make the coyote problem worse. We live in the backcountry of Colorado, with livestock, dogs for protection and coyotes passing through - we have just few enough coyotes to live comfortably with them, and they with us - because Colorado does not permit certain types of Coyote hunting. Be a friend, be informed, don't suggest coyote hunting! The problem comes when they increase their replacement numbers 9x after being hunted. It is crucial for every deer hunter to take up coyote hunting in order to effectively manage coyote populations. But, we can hunt them year round. The farmer next door shot 70 last winter running them with dogs and he said theres still too many around.
