Remember the pig story? The bigger than a thousand pound wild hog shot and killed by Jamison Stone in Alabama?

Seems there are some unanswered questions about that hunt. Alabama wildlife officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding that hunt. It appears that the hog was shot within a 150-acre fenced-in area and officials want to know how the pig got into that enclosure to begin with. Read more here.

If as officials suspect, the hog was brought to the ranch just prior to the hunt, how do you move a 1,051 pound pig measuring 9 feet, 4 inches from head to tail……..easily?

It’s no different than any one else who doe their “hunting” inside a fence. Funny how the fence never makes it in to the story or the picture.

“Chased down and killed…” now there’s a better description of shooting game animals in a pen than the word “hunting”.

Who cares how Fred was harvested? How do you feel about domestic cattle being slaughtered or do you say they are murdered? Good ‘ol Fred was being raised for eventual slaughter.

If anything, the young boy who shot Fred learned a valuable lesson: don’t misrepresent the truth to the media because they always find out. Also, never think the media is your friend.

I don’t care if you tie them to the door knob on the back porch and kill them with a nail gun. Doesn’t make it hunting though.

If you want to pretend it is, go ahead. If you don’t want me to comment on it though, keep it to your self. Put it up for public consumption and it’s fair game just the same as if you are asking me what I think about it and I’ll hang out where ever I please Eric.

Fred looks a lot like a Berkshire boar I had that was very tame and easy to handle. I had to butcher him when he got too big to breed my sows, they could not stand up with him on them. He weighed 975# dressed and made great bacon and hundreds of pounds of brats. The state meat inspector at the locker plant said there are a lot of 800# to a 1,000# pigs used in hot dogs and sausage. The market price for these hogs is 10 to 15 cents a pound after shipping cost. That is $80 to $100 for a huge hog. I sold the bacon and brats for $3.00 a pound. I bet the hunt for a record wild hog sold for a lot more then $100 he may have paid for Fred. With the media today it is hard to shoot record bears, deer, hogs, or any game in a pen and get by with it. Too bad this hunt was ruined for the Kid if he thought he was shooting a wild boar not someones pet Fred.
