A gentlemen elk rancher whom I met on a recent trip to Idaho this past spring, lost two cow elk when wolves dug under his fences and got into the cow elk pen. He says his wife noticed the wolves at 5:00 a.m. They killed the two cows and dined on the livers, fetuses and hams. Under the current law, he cannot shoot the wolves to protect his property.

The Idaho Department of Agriculture considers his domestic elk to be livestock but evidently the Idaho Fish and Game Department, which despises the elk industry and has done everything it can to run it out of business, doesn’t consider domestic elk livestock. I’m not sure where the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service stands on this issue. Probably they don’t know either, nor do they care.

Regardless, IDFG will not shoot the troublesome wolves nor will they allow the rancher to either. It is my understanding that under law he is not entitled to any compensation either.

It’s a sad day in this perverted society of ours when an American has to sit and watch as his property is destroyed by an overgrown and unwanted population of wolves and he can do nothing about it.

Have we Americans lost all of our rights? Shame on those who promote such foolishness in this country and shame on our government for being contributors to the loss of property rights and the rights that we should all have as Americans to defend ourselves, our families and the property that we own. Is there no justice?
