Wildlife officials from New Jersey met with residents of Middletown in order to try to minimize the recent coyote attacks and assure people that they are safe and how to avoid being attacked by one of the varmints. I don’t think what officials had to say convinced a lot of people.
One official explained to Middletown residents that they need to yell, scream, make a lot of noise, throw rocks or spray them with a garden hose and they will run away. But that didn’t convince one resident in attendance.
“All this talk about yelling at coyotes isn’t working,” said Roy Messina, who attended the meeting. “I don’t understand why children are being attacked. That is how aggressive they’re getting.”
In the meantime, officials have had very little success in killing and/or trapping the animals from the problem area.
