You know, it seems like everyday that I read a blog somewhere or an article in the newspaper or some outdoor/hunting magazine about how to properly select the best possible tree stand. This advice ranges from the most easily usable stand to the safest as well as the most strategic.

Well, I have some advice for some of you hunters that you might want to heed. I’m not one to be too concerned about safety because frankly I don’t get too high off the ground. I also am perhaps a bigger advocate for how far I can see from my stand than from the best game trail. And I sure do go for ease of assembling and using my tree stand.

Below I have sent you a picture of what could be considered by some, especially those of us who are getting those creaky old bones, to be the ultimate in tree stands. Now granted, this isn’t up a tree but then again, is it really necessary? I may not be able to see a lot of big game from this vantage point but I ask again, is it really necessary? But the one secret that I promised I wouldn’t tell is that I can drive an ATV right to this spot. Now that’s ease of use and I’m doing my part to preserve the Maine deer herd, wouldn’t you say?

*Update* I have posted more photos and a story at my Outdoor Blog from Maine about the adventure I took when I got this picture. Here’s the link. For those interested, check out the photography series I’ve been working on there called, “Maine The Way Life Is”. There are now five parts and I’m working on number six.
