There are no known cases of this happening. However, scientists readily admit they don't know all there is about the disease. CWD is similar to mad cow but we know that mad cow CAN be passed on to humans and is deadly.

Studies have shown that it is difficult to pass the disease from one species to another. In other words, not only is it difficult to pass the disease from one mule deer to another, it's that much harder to pass it from mule deer to whitetail, deer to elk, elk to moose, etc.

But, it is only fair to also state that scientists also are not fully aware yet as to exactly how the disease is spread. Most information passed on to people like us is probably sound information but based mostly on theory, some studies and a bit of speculation.

As an example, where once CWD was claimed not to be able to be spread through the blood, they now have reason to believe it can. But they still believe the disease is contained in the organs of the animals and the the meat is safe to eat and that humans cannot contract some form of disease from it.

This is information that I have learned and has been passed on to me. I am not a scientist.

I know I have come across that information before but can't seem to put my hand on it right now. Let me look into this and get back to you.

Hey Tom,

Really appreciate your common sense approach to the fair chase issue. I have been making the same point concerning CWD for years, but unfortunately seems to fall on deaf ears.

Promoters of the fair chase measure in ND have suggested that a number of states(I think the last number I saw was 11)have outlawed hunting preserves. I am hopeful that you would know if this is accurate and the nature of the laws put in place. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
