John Holyoke, Bangor Daily News, reports on efforts by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to inspect harvested moose during Maine’s second half of the moose hunt. The inspection includes information being gathered about ticks, that can eventually kill a moose. Moose become infested with thousands of ticks and often die during the winter months. Biologists are attempting to gather information in order to better understand how the tick affects the moose in hopes of finding ways to prevent mortality.
Holyoke’s report also talks about how weather and changing landscape has and is having an affect on moose harvests in some areas.
