Anti-PETA Sign by Bill AndersonI laughed and I laughed and it made me hurt even more. Look, I’ve been reading an ongoing debate over at the American Thinker website for a few days now. It began when Jamie Glasov interviewed Frank Miniter, a senior editor at Outdoor Life magazine and the executive editor of American Hunter magazine. He also recently wrote and had published a book called, “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Hunting”.

That was followed by a rebuttal from Barbara Metler and another follow-up by M.W. Gail. Yesterday, we are blessed once again to have a re-re-rebuttal from Ms. Metler. It’s all quite comical if you’re interested.

I’ve relegated myself to only reading and laughing as 99.9% of everything anti-hunting that is spewed forth by this gushing volcano of misinformation we’ve all heard before. But I did want to make note of this for those interested in following the debate and perhaps getting involved to some degree.

What I got a big chuckle over and this is something I have written about before is how Metler, an obvious person who dislikes hunting, wants to have it both ways depending upon the argument in question. Here’s an example of what she says about how hunters cause overpopulations of deer – no really she said this.

Yes, hunting does increase the population of the animal hunted! And exactly what has that caused? It has caused people in the United States to scream that we have too many deer, too many geese, etc. Then, “thrill of the kill” hunters, and/or those who are paid to kill, offer to kill the “too many.” This results in even more of the “too many.”

When deer are killed, the remaining deer will respond by reproducing dramatically. This phenomenon is known as “Compensatory Rebound,” and explains why sport hunting as a management tool has resulted in an ever-increasing number of deer in this country.

Since hunting causes the reproduction rates of a deer population to double or triple, hunting is not a solution to a problem, but a commitment to a permanent problem!

It would only make sense that if Ms. Metler truly believes this then she must believe that wildlife biologists are total idiots. But this isn’t my point. I’ll guarantee that if the subject came around to talking about animals that are in danger of being eradicated, she would also blame the hunter. I have listened to these same arguments for years, how hunters wiped out the bear, elk, moose, etc., etc. and now us savage “kill for the thrill” hunters are causing there to be too many animals.

Really, if you get a chance, drop on over and get caught up on this debate. It’s quite comical.
