The last time I read the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution it read this way: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”. Where in there is there mention of hunting?
It is becoming more and more clear that the world is getting dumber. CNN, in making an attempt to what they deemed would be catching Thompson in some kind of contradictory statement, showed their true ignorance.
Fred Thompson has made a point of visiting gun shops and gun shows while hitting the campaign trail in New Hampshire and South Carolina, usually with camera crews in tow.
Like this is the first time a politician sets himself or herself up for photo opportunities? But what’s behind this initial statement is an attempt to set readers up to believe that Mr. Thompson has stumbled into saying things that aren’t true.
But Thompson said Wednesday he does not have a hunting license, nor has be been hunting recently.
Mind you, this is newsworthy. My God! Fred Thompson has been visiting gun shows and he doesn’t possess a hunting license! I guess that’s a crime.
Let’s see. The Second Amendment, which mentions nothing in it about hunting, is a right of the people to own a gun. Is CNN not aware of the fact that the Second Amendment is about owning a gun? It doesn’t say the right of the people to hunt shall not be infringed. People own guns for many reasons. Some collect them for historical purposes, while others own them simply to exercise their right. There are those who love to shoot and those who collect them as investments. Owning a gun for the purpose of going hunting is only one reason to be able to own one.
This attempt to make Thompson look like a hypocrite, which I’m assuming they were trying to do, is really stupid and the only people who would fall for it are also really stupid.
Let’s focus on issues, for a change.
