Pennsylvania Boy Bags Rare Pie-Bald Deer

That’s great – I’m glad it was a kid who landed the rare find! “They” say an albino or piebald can bring bad luck – but I never understood that. It would seem to me that this kid is quite lucky, and I hope his luck continues!

Piebald deer are not all that uncommon especially in areas with high concentration of deer. It is more common then albino deer and often times deer that people report as albino are really piebald deer. My understanding is that this deformity is caused by a recessive gene that all deer carry in their make up and inbreeding increases the likelihood of having piebald deer. Besides the coloration of the fur other telltale signs of a piebald deer are skeletal deformities like and arch back, short legs, and extended lower jaw.

These deer need to be taken out of the herd and they make a unique trophy. Congratulations to this young man and I hope people don’t fill his head about the nonsense of being bad luck to kill one.

That was my son who bagged the piebald, in PA. It was a very exciting day for us all. His dad was happier that Matt was able to take it down,rather than take it down himself.Also we are very proud of Matt and I hope his GOOD luck continues in his future hunting years.You can’t see it in this picture but it’s hooves were all curled up and around.Matt decided to have a it shoulder mounted with the hooves.It also had a gray tail.Thanks for sharing Matt’s story!!!!

my mom said something about this yes it was amazing, i shot it from 200 yards through both lungs, then chased it for like 500 yrds. it was then still alive my dad jumped it agin and i then shot it through the heart while runing. i loved every moment of it!!!
