Well-known outdoor writer, magazine columnist and Internet blogger J.R. Absher has announced the total redesign and upgrade of his popular Web site, The Outdoor Pressroom.

Absher’s site has entertained, informed and educated thousands of editors, communicators, outdoor writers, bloggers and general outdoor enthusiasts on a daily basis since it first went online in August, 1999. Located at www.outdoorpressroom.com, the site features news and links about hunting, fishing, wildlife, outdoor politics and the shooting sports, ranging from relevant and breaking news to the bizarre and absurd—and everything in between.

“If it’s wild, it’s compiled,” has been the site’s motto for nearly eight years—a duration that might deserve something akin to the multiplication factor used to calculate dog years—at least in terms of Internet longevity.

“I’m confident with the assertion that The Outdoor Pressroom was the first site of its kind on the Web, as well as the longest-running, news-link venue designed strictly for the communication of important, breaking, and often humorous outdoor and wildlife news,” Absher said.

The new design, which officially debuted online during the holidays, has many new features, including the ability for readers to make comments about stories and links, as well as full archival capabilities. In addition to a headline on each entry, the New Outdoor Pressroom features a few lines of explanation, background or opinion about each posted story.

Subscriber feeds, permalinks and trackbacks are also featured on the upgraded site.

While the Outdoor Pressroom has never been the major commercial success Absher once hoped it might become when first launched, he says the doors it has opened for him with editors, magazines and other Web sites has proven invaluable beyond measure. And, he says he intends to continue hosting the popular site as long as readers continue to read and enjoy his daily offerings.

In addition to his Outdoor Pressroom duties, Absher is a busy freelance writer and a regular contributor to Outdoor Life (magazine and Web site), North American Hunter, North American Fisherman, NRA Publications, Whitetail Journal, Sports Afield Almanac, The Sportsman’s Guide Web site and the new Mossy Oak Web site. He is a public relations consultant for two national shooting organizations, the International Bowhunting Organization and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association.
