Watching a wolf kill its prey is not a pretty thing. Neither is seeing the suffering caused by a vehicle collision, bad arrow or a gut shot, for example, on a deer or elk....That kind of death is just as bad. How did all the game exist on this continent with hungry Indians, bears, wolves, mountain lions, coyotes, etc. eating and killing all the game. Using the rationale of many bloggers on this site would indicate that there couldn't have been any game because all the predators would have killed them all, every last deer, elk, moose, whatever! Nonetheless, Indians were well fed for the most part, killing year round, no hunting seasons or regulations. They were able to make kills despite the full compliment of predators "spooking" and killing game. I find that many of the comments here reflect the arrogance and entitlement that has destroyed much of this country to begin with. When man and wildlife conflict, wildlife will in the end always lose---man will ultimately get his way. On the contrary, to illustrate another point of view, the Jews of many thousands of years ago believed the earth was destroyed by a flood caused by God because He was disgusted with people and creation. But, the interesting thing is the first thing that God said when he told Noah and his family to come out of the ark was to "BRING OUT EVERY KIND OF LIVING CREATURE THAT IS WITH YOU--THE BIRDS, THE ANIMALS, AND ALL THE CREATURES THAT MOVE ALONG THE GROUND--SO THEY CAN MULTIPLY ON THE EARTH AND BE FRUITFUL AND INCREASE IN NUMBER UPON IT." Whether you believe the story or not, it is still provides insight into an ancient people in terms of what they believed God would want. Animals are good in, for, and of themself. They have a right to exist for their own sake.

Schweitzer is doing the right thing in Montana. The Canadain wolf should not have ever been listed as endangered in the United States in the first place. This is not home range of Canadain wolf. For an animal to be protected under The Endangered Speices Act it has to be in it’s native home range this Canadain wolf is out of it’s native home range here in the United States. This is abuse of The Endangered Speices Act. This Canadain wolf is not the same wolf that lives here. This wolf is larger, runs in larger packs, And kills just for the hell of it. Not only do they kill prey animals that they don’t eat, but also other predators, such as coyotes, mt.loins, and even bears that they don’t even eat. The Canadain wolf is THE WORST CRIME EVER COMMETTED ON OUR NATIVE WILDLIFE EVER IN THIS COUNTRY! And should have never been brought into the United States. Emotions are running very high in Idaho,Montana, and Wyomnimg right now with the slaughter of their wildlife, pets and livestock. I live in Colorado, but I have been in Montana talked to people and seen what’s happening, and it’s sicking! When we got back to Colorado from Montana two tears ago, I told people that vacation was the worst vacation I’ve ever been on. These wolf idiots are destroying these states. What gives these idiots the right to inflict so much pain and suffering on the people and wildlife of these states?

a voice from afar ,we here in ireland dont have any heards of any wild deer or wolfs ,most of whats left is rats crossing the road .our farmers destroy the natural habitat and shoot everything that moves so that soon all we will have is a big green field full of cows.you people over there have still got something to protect ,to be proud of , cull 2 in every 10 wolfs before it gets out of control . then the balance will sort itself out. i,ve never seen montana but i can tell its beautiful ,mind it and all its creatures for the next generation ,

Wow, the response posts got REALLY OFF TRACK. Did anyone bother to read the actual report on the elk population in Yellowstone area? Colorado folks in Unit 61 here - and no the coyotes (and the immigrant wolf or two) are not killing our elk by the truckloads, nor are they killing our livestock, nor our healthy adult deer. If y'all believe you are about to run out of elk up there in Montana just north of Yellowstone, we've got more than enough to see you through a few lean winters. But according to this press release - you don't need ours:

"Here is the elk count news release from the Northern Yellowstone Cooperative Wildlife Working Group

Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks – Contact: Kelly Profitt 406-994-4042
National Park Service – Contact: Doug Smith 307-344-2242
U.S. Forest Service – Contact: Dan Tyers 406-848-7375
U.S. Geological Survey- Contact: Paul Cross 406-994-6908

News Release. Winter Count Shows Northern Elk Herd Numbers Remain Stable

A lot of folks seem to forget that the Northern Range elk herd is not the only elk herd in Yellowstone Park. There are about 8 others at least partially in the Park, and they are not are going in the same direction. Most significant is the Jackson Hole elk herd which summers partly in the Park. The Jackson elk herd is categorized into four geographic groups. They are southern Yellowstone, the Teton Wilderness, the Gros Ventre and Grand Teton National Park.

It’s population is close to 12,000 and is stable despite a lot of wolf packs. It is actually 6% above Wyoming Game and Fish’s “objectives” size. Recently, however, Wyoming Game and Fish has begun to break it down into herd sub-units and set objectives for them too. A lot of folks find this both offensive and unworkable. It is offensive because setting objectives tell us that wild animals (elk) are being treated like livestock. The smaller the livestock (elk) unit, the more hands on kind of management it takes to meet these objectives because natural variations don’t match up with politically created boundaries.

Use of sub-units also lets people “cherry pick” numbers and say things like, well maybe elk numbers are up or stable, but they are down where I hunt. Or they might just ignore subunits that match their political agenda. For example, much has been made that the calf to cow ratio in the Upper Gros Ventre is only 13 calves per 100 cow elk. It is not mentioned that in the lower Gros Ventre the ratio is 41 calves to 100 cows."

At it's core the sustainable development sciences goal is to reduce human population. David Foreman an originator of the Wild Lands Project has called for a world population of 100,000 people. Jacques Cousteau said that 350,000 people need to be eliminated every day for two decades to bring the worlds population into balance. The N.N.s Global Biodiversity Assessment was released at the same time Sustainable Development policies were unleashed. Section 11.2.3.2.pp773, announced the following policies; (1) "Population growth has exceeded the capacity of the biosphere." (2) " It is estimated that an agricultural world," in which most human beings are (non hunting meatless society) peasants, should be able to support 5 to 7 billion people. (3) " In contrast, a reasonable estimate for an industrialized world society at the present North American material standard of living would be 1 billion."

E, you and yours get to go first. Its your belief system, so you get off this rock first.. Jump off bitch, with your rubber pigskin.

You just gave me a idea, playing catch with the wolves. They can catch and I'll throw and I,ll use a 06 150gr. superformance by hornady. Sounds like a fun game.
