[...] FINALLY! What works for me and everyone else I know is ORIGINAL LISTERINE. That’s right mouthwash, but only the original version. If you want to read more comments on how well this works click here. [...]

I liked the reviews of mosquito traps on this blog. http://mosquito-trap-review.blogspot.com/

Sometimes it’s nicer to have something permanent, instead of something on your skin.

@ Vicky on March 21st, 2008

Right on, I agree with every point you made. The little devils would rather bite me 5x and leave the person next to me alone. I can't use DEET - I just have to make sure I'm covered up when I go outside.

I used Listerine last summer while we were around the campfire. I think it worked pretty well. I don't know whether we just loved the fact we were spraying mouthwash on the grass, or what, but it was also highly amusing. Not to mention, the family's dog was highly amused and licking the surface. Not sure if that is healthy or not? They eventually brought him indoors. Also, only one of us had any mosquito bites by the end of the evening. Which is pretty good.

I have also heard that citrus oil works. You make it at home with the rinds of oranges and some water. http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf000835.tip.html

Hope this helps.

Wow....so many varied responses to this. I remember leaving my comment way back in March. Getting updates on this periodicly. There are no simple solutions to this question. It works for some but not for others. Like loggers using dryer sheets to keep the black flies off of them. Works in the big woods, but maybe not in your backyard. (Use the original scent type, lavender is just not very manly.) But mosquitos ignore them completely. I suggest a two-fold method. A dryer sheet and lotion yourself with listerine.

Fresh breath, fresh from the dryer scent and the bugs stay away!!!!!

Listerine is the best repellent for mosquitoes, period! I've used the most expecsive hunter's deet and the bugs bit me threw my clothes and hat. With listerine, they don't come near me all evening!

Despite all the life danger, with one selfless act from one common person, someone is saved, A hero is made.
