Hillary ClintonToday is “Super Tuesday II” or “Super Tuesday Junior” or a myriad of other nicknames to title the primary elections taking place in Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island. And as with all politicians depending on where you are and what it is that you think the voters want to hear, depends on what gets said.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Hillary Clinton spoke briefly (but said a mouthful) about gun control and how her daily decisions are influenced by her “deep religious convictions”. This is how the Dallas Morning News described Clinton’s remarks on gun control.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, locked in a fierce battle for Texas, said Monday that as president, she would not try to impose New York-like gun restrictions at the national level.

Wouldn’t we just assume that if Ms. Clinton really believed in the Second Amendment she wouldn’t be using words like “try”? She evidently said she would “try” not to impose “New York-like” restrictions on guns. But the key to her statement might come at the end when she said, “at the national level”. Are we to assume that she would do nothing at all to stop the states from stripping Americans of the Second Amendment rights?

Although none of the candidates have seriously addressed the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court hearing of District of Columbia vs. Heller, or the D.C. gun ban case, none also have ever been seriously asked to speak out on the issue. Maybe this is Clinton’s attempt at paving the way for future debate on the issue if she has the opportunity.

Many feel the Supreme Court will rule in favor of a guaranteed individual right to keep and bear arms but declare that states have a right to impose “reasonable” restrictions.

We know that Clinton supports an assault weapons ban and has never done anything to support gun rights. Her statement here is an attempt to appear supportive but only alluded that she would “try” not to impose restrictions at the national level.
