The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance has sent a letter to Secretary of Agriculture Edward Schafer saying that the Department of Agriculture lists the Humane Society of the United States under their category of “Shelters, Rescue and Welfare Organizations“. USSA says they should be listed as a lobbying organization as is clearly stated on HSUS’ website – “primary purpose is to advocate for sensible public policies“.

USSA points out to Sec. Schafer that the HSUS has spent $80,000 in a six-month period on lobbying efforts and shouldn’t be given “free advertising space” on the Department’s website as an animal welfare organization.

USSA is asking the DOA to remove HSUS’ listing.

You know I hate to feign ignorance, but as much as I try to keep up with what goes on in the world, I keep getting this organization confused with the local group that takes in strays, and neuters abandoned cats and dogs…I think that is what happens with about 95% of people who hear of this group…There needs to be some massive news reports that will clear up the identification crisis. THAT would really hurt their credability…now if I could just think up some way to do that? Anybody??

If this doesn’t change I’ll email Senator Boxer and try to find out why this is so. I advise others to do this also. If it doesn’t change, email your Senators and ask for an explanation. Is this costing the taxpayers money? Duh. If it is could this be considered extortion?
