Edwin Sotomayer has been a security guard at Disney for 13 years. He has lost that job, at least for now. Florida recently passed a law that permits employees to bring a gun to their workplace providing they keep it locked up in their automobiles while at work. Disney says it is exempt from this law because they store fireworks on property.
Sotomayer commutes over 20 miles to work and he says Orlando has a crime problem and he wants to protect himself during his commute. He challenged Disney’s policy when he arrived at work on Friday, refusing to allow his car to be searched. Four hours into his shift, he was sent home because he refused to cooperate with the investigation Disney says.
WFTV.com has more on the story plus they are running a poll about whether employees should be allowed to bring guns to the workplace.
