Last May, the Department of Interior buckled under pressure from animal rights groups and Congress and listed the polar bear as a “threatened” species under the Endangered Species Act due to unsubstantiated claims of man-made global warming. Lawsuits were filed immediately against that action and now the DOI has agreed to set a deadline of June 30, 2010 to designate “critical habitat” for the polar bear.
