Nationwide gun sales are up 42%. Sales began to flourish as soon as most people figured out Obama was in and McCain was out. The question(s) swirling about the country is why? Why are people buying up guns and ammunition? What’s the motivating factor(s)?
CBS2Chicago says in some rural area of Illinois, gun sales are up 50%. Reporter Mike Flannery reports on several reasons but here’s one that’s sure to wad a few undies of us gun rights believers.
“It’s simply paranoia,” said Thomas Mannard of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence. “And it’s irresponsible, from my point of view, to be touting how wonderful this is. More guns definitely equal more death.”
Paranoia – Noun, A nondegenarative, limited, usually chronic psychosis characterized by delusions of persecution or of grandeur, strenuously defended by the afflicted with apparent logic and reason.
Is this anything remotely related to being “bitter and clingy” as “the great one” now jokingly refers? I think it not paranoia when any sane person studies Obama’s past records in dealing with gun issues to fully believe that there may not be any guns available to buy should he have his way. If no guns then he’s made it known he would make sure we can’t get ammunition for them.
For Mannard to assume the role of a psychologist and call the behavior of those buying guns paranoia, he must also look in the mirror and say it’s paranoia that anyone would claim that by selling more guns to law abiding citizens “means more death”.
The difference between the two is simple. Buying a gun out of fear that Obama will take them away is based on fact and past performance of the President Elect. In other words, we have justifiable reason to be concerned over what he will do as president. Fearing having more guns in the hands of lawful citizens is nothing more than unjustified fear, not based in any factual evidence to show that it’s true. By definition then, Mannard is the one who is paranoid and displays his ill behavior by calling rational people paranoid.
I believe people are rushing to buy guns for a lot of reasons and fear of having them taken away is certainly on the list. Concern over increased terrorism in this country because of belief that this administration seems more willing to have tea and crumpets with the terrorists than kill them and rid the world of their scourge.
Owning a gun is also a good investment. With an economy that is on the edge of hell and looking in, you might consider the advice of some who say take your money, while it still is a negotiable item, and purchase tangible items, something that actually will have value, i.e. gold, silver, guns, etc., not paper.
Statistics show us that when unemployment rate rises and the economy struggles, crime rate goes up. Maybe more people are actually fearing the direction our economy is going and are desiring protection for themselves and their family.
I’m sure there are more reasons. Have you bought any more guns or ammunition than what you would consider normal? And if so, would you care to share the reasons why?
