Here’s what I have so far for information on a pretty big bear killed in Wisconsin.

“I saw the bear yesterday morning at Tom Persons when I dropped my deer off to get stuffed. The story is it had started digging a hole in the corn field Neil did not see it, it was on the outside row of the combine and he drove a spout into the lungs. Tom guessed the bear to be 15-20 yrs old he will pull a tooth when he starts to process it. The skull should be in that 22 inch range. The state record is 22 12/16. The Dunn county record is 21 9/16. Schloughs had to pay $75 to keep the bear. They are getting a full body mount that will cost around $3000 .”

“My dad hit this bear in with the combine last Wednesday night about 20 miles north of Menomonie. Hanging weight (no insides) of this bear was 618 pounds. Rough measurements from head to tail (no legs) 7 feet and around the heart girth he was 6 ft around.”

*Update* 2/2/2009 This news article explains exactly what happened in Wisconsin with this bear. As near as I can tell from talking with people involved, the news article is for the most part accurate.

Looks to me like a nylon strap around the girth of the bear under his front legs and hoisted up and hanging from the ceiling. I could be wrong.

Actually, Josh! I do know the true story. I have been in contact with those directly involved and am planning to call the gentlemen who hit the bear and talk to him directly about what happened.

I can only assure readers that this did happen and I have been told that the size and basic string of events is accurate.

These are farm folks, who I’ve been told don’t get involved much with “that Internet thing” and are having trouble understanding that people are making a fuss over a bear.

More info as I get it.

this picture is big alright big bull-s try to bring in buisness another way your insulting your readers the bear is photo shopped you can see the line around it and the bear appears to be floating in mid air theres nothing tied to the front paws.

Picture is fake and poorly photoshopped. Nothing holding the bear. Its arms are up, not hanging down. It’s head also looks pretty stiff. Maybe its in rigor, but I don’t think so. Dark line around it in an attempt to make a shadow, except the shadow is the same width even though it is being cast on a background that is not level, which would cause a difference in shadowing. (Shadow on the post is the same width as it is on the back wall, which is clearly a few feet away) I would think the woman in the picture would also put her hand on the front side of the bear instead of just randomly holding it behind the bear.

You could have done a much better job. Get some practice and try again.

It looks as though it has rigamortus and the reasn for it being in the position it is .
It was probably either in the back of the truck with it’s paws forward and it’s head propped up for photo’s or over a log to take photo’s. This bears position is not uncommon.
