Roger – I did not write the article, only published it with permission from Dr. Geist. In any of Dr. Geist’s writings about the Kenton Carnegie event, I have not read any official documents pertaining to the lack of human remains in the wolves that were killed. That does not mean they don’t exist.

If you have a link or information where I can find that I’ll take a look and if necessary, I’ll contact Dr. Geist for an explanation.

Yout article pretty much shoots down the black bear theories. What I’m still puzzled by are the necropsy results on the suspected wolves.Namely that there was no sign of human remains in their stomachs. Does that still hold true? I assume they were among the suspected four wolves you mentioned earlier.

Geez, I didn’t realize it’s the 1800′s. Really, I think this man’s death was a tragedy. Even the people there realized there were clear signs which were ignored. That said, illegal aerial “hunting” is not only in Alaska. I hate torture of any sort, animal or man. In no way is this about anything except shooting ANY animal from the air (unless it’s a kill shot ,not easy but doable). Really, though, no room left for any top predator except man? I am a woman with a lot of adventure in my life. But it is 2009 here. It’s been weird, but I must go.

And Greg, they get to kill them for that….or poison them or trap them, or aerial shoot them….don’t you know that it’s all just who or what you’re protecting….and “we” don’t count!
Jayneebee, maybe you consider being eaten alive more torturous than being killed with a shotgun, but that’s just because you know nothing about hunting, or how quick a charge of buckshot will kill…
And your retort was so superficial as to warrant laughter, since you know nothing about wolves or hunting….and aerial shooting is not “hunting”, it is “controlled killing” by the fish and game authorities only…for predatory packs that have decimated the populations of hoofed animals wherever they reached enough in number to be “uncontrolled”…

And once there is no food to hunt, hiking to and up the ski mountain is a real bitch with a pack of say, 25-30 wolves deciding you’re dinner.

Jayneebee – You make it sound as if Gov. Palin is some kind of dictator. Not sure what state you call home but you should know that most governors do not have authority to circumvent the state’s constitution and the laws enacted by the legislature. Such is the case here.

I have never said killing wolves in this fashion is pretty nor is it the classic definition of “hunting” but it is necessary. You advocate hunting for food and skiing for fun. Without this action taken by the Alaska fish and game, there will shortly be no more food to hunt.

I ‘ve been to 49 states and 19 foreign countries so far. Alaska is a fave and there is a man who keeps me warm. As for the airport, no. I land on the lake. I do wonder why I’m “too Funny”,though. P.S. I think the same about the deer and bou. Also ,I realise a federal law does not apply if Gov.Palin says it doesn’t.

Interesting story. The pack behavior , I thought, was always known. The gripe many of us have is torturing the animal before killing it. As a hunter, I believe in “fair” hunting. The salt lick, garbage dumping, spotlighting and trap then shoot stuff are not hunting! When I was in Alaska I thought my friend was joking about plane hunting. After seeing video I was horrified! These wolves are out in the wilds when there is loud noise, violent wind, and bullets piercing their body. The pain keeps coming until it can’t move, then the monster hurls down. Finally death comes. This is not hunting, only torture. And what about pups left to freeze? GRUESOME all the way round!! And I do not ever hear of a hunter eating wolf. HUNT FOR FOOD, SKI FOR FUN…..my motto

Sarah Palin is surrounded by a fish and wildlife crew that is respected worldwide and she knows that. Palin is not stupid and she understands the needs for proper wildlife management.

As far as the Kenton Carnegie story goes (I hope you followed some of the links at the end of the article to learn more.) I do not know if Gov. Palin is personally aware of this tragic story but I do know that at least some of her fish and game staff are.
