Not here in Florida, where the deer rut for damn near the entire year....at least for 6-8 months out of the year. As far as I'm concerned, let the season be open for all bucks, and shoot what you want...as long as the deer have had time to service a few, you'll never be able to find and/or kill enough of the bucks to stop all the does from being bred...There are plenty of us meat hunters who will take whatever God gives us....and if He gives us a big, horny one, then we are just a little more blessed...

In my opinion you have to stop taking trophy animals during the rut. Taking trophy animals during the rut period stops the spreading of the superior genes.
Here in the west we have a program called ranching for wildlife. This allows the landowner or outfitter to shoot trophy game such as Elk or Deer during there rut cycle. In september through this program you can shoot Elk with a rifle during the regular archery season and Deer in November during there rutting time. This prevents the passing down of the superior genetics.
The reason for the records being broken today is management (food plots) and controlled hunting as far as culling of the inferior genetics.
History shows when you take care of something it usually does a lot better than when you don't. Rifle seasons for deer and elk should be set for either before or after the rut not during.
