I agree Jim but you and I know it's all political. We wouldn't want to upset the purists.

I imagine if they ever allow a Wolf season it will come with a harvest quota.
If that is the case what would it matter how you hunted them weather it be hounds or bait or trapping.
That way the quota is meet and we as hunters and trappers get the chance to at least do our part in help to control the the out of control Wolf population.

A few years ago I was sitting up about 9000' with my rifle and back pack, I had spotted a nice big 200" class mule buck, and I was watching a high pasture at light hoping he would step into it..My horse is tied off at about 7500' below me, So I hear clink, clunk, and steps up in front of me is this high stepping cow Moose, and her calf...I watched in awe as she walked over trash I knew my horse couldn't...I thought right then, I would love to saddle me up a cow moose...I could ride any where on one of those critters..Later I heard it has been done.. I failed that season to add another 200" mule buck to the score...I got three, and missed out on 30 others I had scouted over the years..Some day we may add the wolf skull to the Boone and Crocket club, I hope...I watched two super nice bucks this fall, while elk hunting..I was surprised by them, and glad..I just sat and watched them sneak past, sometimes a feller just needs to set still and admire them...They musta been a couple smart boys, surviving wolves and a deer season...I decided to let em be.

No Tom riding a horse would not be bait. In wilderness areas it is Horse or foot travel only so a horse is a means of transportation there. Now riding a elk or deer to hunt wolves would be a use of bait. LOL.

But Greg, Isn't taking a horse on a wolf hunt considered "baiting" a wolf? If you weren't on your horse, would the wolves follow? If not then you can't take a horse because you would be using bait. LMAO

All you need is a horse under you. The wolves are fascinated with the horse and will follow me and my horse around all day..Of course then you need to be able to shoot from your horse, I can, and do, because when I stop and get off my horse the wolf or wolves leave the trail and duck back into the brush..If I tie up my horse I dare not go off and leave him alone...ever. So to fill my wolf tag if it ever comes to a hunt is going to be fun..Will we put a dent in over populations of wolves like this, never. Locate the dens, then you can kill a wolf on foot too..Some fella's will get lucky walking trails in the beginning of wolf hunts, this luck will not last.. I doubt we see wolf hunts, especially under this regime we suffer under...they wish to eliminate hunting and gun ownership...and the Declaration Of Independence...
