The world is a tiny place sometimes, full of interesting twists and turns!

Yesterday a regular reader of the Black Bear Blog left a comment about the article I had posted about the return of wolves to Germany after what was reported as being some 200 years. Here’s what reader “SR” said.

Here’s an idea;

Dr Geist was born in Austria correct? He should therefore be fluent in German. Perhaps he could find some modern accounts from the other side of the debate which the environmentalists conveniently “forgot” to translate into English.

How bizarre! Only a couple of days ago, I received an email from Dr. Geist with some photos of a German newspaper article about the problems with the wolves. I wasn’t sure exactly how I was going to use this information until yesterday’s English translated news article came out about the wolves. Along with the news clippings, Dr. Geist had these comments:

A very interesting development in Germany where wolves have begun to colonize a area in eastern Germany, close to Poland. Wolves are protected by EU conventions. However, the wolves in Germany quickly showed all the attributes associated with a wolf population running short of prey. They had caused severe damage to the precious hunting economy so important to municipalities, to livestock and pets, while wandering into human habitations. Now the local authorities have managed to negotiate an exemption that in essence could lead to the removal of the wolves, specifically citing that if any threats to humans occurred they would all be removed!
