This is an ancient tradition but is not practiced much any more. Some incredible footage here of one powerful bird, especially when you consider the voracity of a wolf.
Incredibly beautiful. I was very skeptical of birds hunting wolves and believed it
to be false, until now.
This is amazing; at first it looked like lupus-boy had the upper hand as he was
shaking his head back and forth in what looked like his death-hold on the eagle but not so. The birds’ talons were implanted in the nose of the wolve –
he was trying to loose himself from that grip-hold and failed.
It looks as though the eagles have been specifically trained to attack the muzzle of the wolf and rendering it inoperable. The video showed one instance of the wolf getting on top of the bird, until another eagle came to the scene but without the use of those snapping jaws and razor teeth, he can’t do a lot of damage.
I had always heard of hunting coyotes and wolves with even falcons but in my mind I pictured training the birds to find the dens and taking out the cubs. These are full grown wolves dude! Amazing!
I need a link Tom, for some reason I can not get embeds to fire off here..
Incredible. I never would have guessed that an eagle was anywhere strong enough for that.
Thats a great video, best I ever saw.. Never judge an opponent by appearance, the eagles dominated the wolf. I wonder how often this happens in the wild and we never knew it.. Eagles are badass..
Wish we could get those guys to come to Idaho with their birds, can’t prosecute an Eagle for kiling a wolf can you? Surely they can’t piss and moan about an eagle killing a wolf or 20.
Not in the wild but if you train and use any bird or other animal to kill a wolf you’d be in big wolf doo doo
Great video Tom I wonder if Sarah will get blamed for these Wolves being killed from the Air.
LOL, I was thinking the same thing, as well as the enviro crowd is probably dreaming how the Mongols living in this free fashion are destroying the natural habitat of the area they migrate back and forth over while living on it..When in fact these Mongols very history of land use with animal use and hunting with the human migratory use and existence proves the new model of leave nature alone and let animals be in charge is a pile of shit.. I have more respect for this small group of humans living in this fashion over any civilized group bar none..Riding a horse at a gallup while holding an eagel on your wrist hunting..WOW, I wanna do it to..If the world was not such a religious political chaotic insane asylum I would move there and live with those people for my last years I have left..Those men are the real deal in Mongolia, Cowboys in my book .
I agree Greg these are some real cowboys. Just holding your arm in that position while at a full lope for a long period of time would be tough enough without a Eagle on it.
I would love to do that just once. It’s got to be a real kick.
Way cool. Fascinating!
That’s an amazing video, for sure…I think they must have had choke holds on the wolves, and got the throat and mouth as well…that’s some amazing work for the moguls and their eagles as well …one way not to leave any holes in the hide! Check out those little mogul ponies…reminds me of Ganges Kahn…and they are probably living the heritage as they have for the last thousand years….
The goat was pulled from the cliff and flown away into the nest. omg. I would
have sworn it not so……. .
Truly amazing. That would be something to experience for sure. Never thought I’d feel any sympathy for a coyote or wolf, but boy they didn’t have a chance against those eagles! Wow.
All I felt was EAGLE PRIDE….
All I felt was EAGLE PRIDE as the Symbol of freedom killed the Communist dog known as the Wolf…
Tom, Seemsto me were in big wolf doo-doo anyway, bring on the birds. Really though those eagles are awesome I would of never thought thy could do hat.
Too bad we can’t teach our over abundance of Bald Eagles here to get rid of the problem wolves that are over populated in the Upper Great lakes! That would be so cool! Maybe I can teach a few! LOL
There’s a video on YouTube of a golden eagle taking down an adult deer…That was something too!
eagles are used to hunt wolf cubs not adult wolves ..look at the video carefully these are not full grown wolves they all must b less than a year old..i kno the truth as i m from that part of the world
How long before the lib blame Palin for this (smirk…sarc)
Fake. It’s quite obviously a Predator drone and a midget in a wolf suit.
Some info I found with this video on YouTube a while back:
“In western Mongolia, an ancient tradition of hunting with Golden Eagles is still alive. We know from history that Genghis Khan had 1,000 hunting birds – eagles, falcons and gyrfalcons – and so did Kubla Khan. There were protected areas in the steppe marked with stones where only the khans were allowed to hunt. The Kazakhs of Mongolia train their eagles to hunt and here the bird of prey is often considered a family member. The Berkutchi is a falconer who hunts with the Golden Eagle. The training of this bird was seen as difficult and even perilous even by the experienced Synchy. the bird is never a slave of its owner, only a partner in hunting. From ancient times, berkutchi-falconers in the nomadic herder societies had the role of preserving and stocking furs. The high social status of the berkutchi and his family was conditioned by the climate, as warm strong and durable clothing for the people during the winter seasons was a vital necessity. Best-suited for this were the pelts of wolves and foxes. Apart from hunting, berkutchi can give spiritual support to pregnant women, who experience or may experience difficulties in childbirth. Through the owner of the bird, which in the imagination of Asian peoples is a symbol of well-being and power. According to folk wisdom, a berkutchi is the indisputable authority in the sphere of childbirth or of renewing fertility. In the cultures of many nomadic and semi-nomadic peoples of Asia, it is said that a berkutchi, regardless of age, can make pregnant a woman who for a long time had not had children.”
Are you people aware of the destruction the elk caused in Yellowstone when humans killed all the wolves out there? The elk flourished and chewed down all the willow trees holding the banks of the river in Yellowstone causing incredible erosion. It goes to show you can’t take out one link of the chain without causing damage to the planet. Wolves are seriously important to the balance of nature. Hopefully, the big volcano in Yellowstone will go off and wipe out humankind, and give the earth back to the animals. The eagles are awesome and the wolves are awesome…to the max. Its people who suck.
So, man had to get his nasty, greedy hands in between the birds and the wolves, and screw up the natural order of nature by training those birds to go after something they ordinarily wouldn’t. Getting a kick out of killing gorgeous animals makes me sick. Is that how you can make your sorry self proud? What are you over compensating for?….Something lacking about yourself?
I feel sorry for you Ann that you think so poorly of yourself, after all you are a human, aren’t you?
Wishing a volcano to destroy mankind is extremely sick behavior and you view everyone else as having something wrong with them. You need a long hard look in the mirror.
She musta run outta dope to smoke.
Ann, you sound so typical of people who are so sick of themselves that they blame mankind for their existence. That’s a shame, because you have a mind of your own you haven’t even begun to use. You are just taking other people’s observations and opinions as your own, and not really thinking for yourself. You need to get out from under your parents wings and learn to fly for yourself. Then you will begin to feel some satisfaction with yourself, and your own freedom and independence. Until you are ready for that, you will not feel good enough about yourself to warrant your existence, or the value of not only your own life, but the lives of those humans who have enabled you to live without finding your own worth. You are a common predicament for the majority of young people these days who do not have a job, and are spoiled rotten, because of the abundance of wealth these days….get out on your own, and find out the truth for yourself! You will find yourself worth something when you do!
Those are some very small wolves. I don’t think an eagle will do very well against a fully grown wolf.
The track accompanying the film is called ” edjin dune” by Okna Tsahan Zam from “Shaman Voices: a Journey In the Steppe”
… The Kalmyks, a Mongol people with a long tradition of horsemanship and nomadic sheep herding, were forcefully removed from their lands between the Caspian and Black seas by Stalin. Okna Tsahan Zam, descendant of the Baatoude clan, was born as they returned to their home territory from Siberia in 1957. Repatriation also brought a return to traditional values and the ‘code of the Steppe’ : musical storytelling flourished as part of a centuries old mix of shamanistic and Buddhist culture.
Okna became a master of hoomii, the overtone chanting technique whose sounds connect the singer to the space around him and the souls of his ancestors. On this album of ‘Shaman voices’ East meets West….. horse fiddle, cymbalum and snakeskin lute combine with the percussion of Steve Shehan, bass and string arrangements; all subtly underpinned by modern music technology.
those golden eagles rock they should release them over in idaho then the enviromental patients wouldnt have anything to say. the wolves kill the elk and eagles will kill the wolves .
wolves are worthless critters, they got rid of them, now there bringing them back what the hell for ?
I Hope Ann read Jes’s response to her comments, I believe it to be very accurate of her and people like her. You can really feel her hatred.
Some of the wolves don’t appear to be full grown just by looking at their snout or the shortness of it. But I’m not sayin that the Eagle couldn’t be effective on an adult. The whole thing appears to be real.
if you look at the wolvs they are only that means that there old or sick witch means they where probbly kicked outta a pack if there would have been a pack of 5 or 10 or more wolvs this would have not happend but it is surivel of the fittest i would like do see one of this eagles try to take on a 200 pound mastiff that would be nice lol
Why, thank you, Harv, and I hope it makes a difference in her life….
Can we train them for American Socialists and Liberals?
Intriguing thought. The difficulty would be recognition and training the birds to identify their target. Hmmmm – smell?, Birkenstocks?, In some cases I suppose the eagles could be trained to recognized certain picket signs, etc.
We don’t need to, we have a lot of vultures to take care of the carcasses of these fools when they run out of credit debt notes made of paper and ink fake commodities, and grocery stores have gone under finally, shipping and receiving nation wide will be the last industry to go down. Then of course the Liberal Socialist Marxists will perish, thank god for vultures. It is kinda funny if you think about it, while living in wild predator mental fantasy land they forgot that they are prey to another type of predator that wants their lands, banksters, who know starved corpses can’t talk back anymore.
