Spring arrives late in Maine. The “old timers” have said for centuries that when the leaves on the trees reach the size of mouse ears, the brook trout bite best. I think it’s because that’s when the black flies are swarming enough to carry an unsuspecting fisherman “away”.

Spring also brings other things; green growth, a hope for renewal and warmer weather. When the warm weather arrives, animals, like this moose, begin to shed their winter coats and when they do, they can get a bit shabby in their appearance.
