I’m sneaking this photo in on Milt. This was taken many years ago…..maybe around 1974ish…! It’s Milt, a few years younger and a few pounds lighter, holding a 53-pound king salmon he caught while fishing in Alaska. I think he caught it in the Gulkana River. (He will correct me if I’m wrong). He was fishing with his lifelong friend and Maine humorist, Joe Perham.
Joe always tells a funny story about this day. He brags how he was upriver from Milt aways and had caught 3 very handsome dolly vardens. He was so ready to show up Milt, noted for his uncanny fishing abilities, he headed down river to do some serious bragging.
About the time he arrived, Milt was really struggling to get this king salmon landed. As he did, he held it up for Joe to see and Joe’s comment was, “Only caught one, huh?”
