Cyberspies have penetrated the U.S. electrical grid and left behind software programs that could be used to disrupt the system, according to current and former national-security officials.

The spies came from China, Russia and other countries, these officials said, and were believed to be on a mission to navigate the U.S. electrical system and its controls. The intruders haven’t sought to damage the power grid or other key infrastructure, but officials warned they could try during a crisis or war.

And is this a bit naive?

Officials cautioned that the motivation of the cyberspies wasn’t well understood, and they don’t see an immediate danger. China, for example, has little incentive to disrupt the U.S. economy because it relies on American consumers and holds U.S. government debt.

By the same token, economists say a turnaround is imminent.

Face it, the experts just spend their time feeding us pablum while they’ll go ahead and prepare themselves to function off-grid.

“The Chinese have attempted to map our infrastructure, such as the electrical grid,” said a senior intelligence official. “So have the Russians.”

So far the damage is more theoretical than real, the paper notes.

So in come the experts appointed by the Gov. to asses the NEW CHANGE we all need.

Either way, much of that task will now fall to the California-based Electric Power Research Institute, which was picked today by the Commerce Department to draw up the “roadmap” of the new smart grid. Its main task will be figuring out just what standards should prevail in that brave new world.

Could it be that other developed NATO countries are being electrical grids are being spied on as well? Any thought on Russia or China trying to steal technology? Nothing new,
They sure need to do something. If their domestic electrical grids are anything like the junk toys or mechanical items that are being palmed of to the us consumer. Badly made and poorly manufactured. Try to find the well made American product any more?
Their rapid expansion by selling this junk off to the world must be necessitating the expansion of an electrical grid they can show off !! Never mind they pilfered the technology! They do not have the capacity to develop anything new they can only copy. They would need to have better technology and technical inspiration than what is currently available from their own Societies. If I may add, Communist Socialist Societies that restrain individual thought.
