What’s this? Here’s an interesting search for anyone interested. According to a biologist in Maine, bald eagles are preying on great cormorant chicks nesting on islands off the coast of Maine.

Why are great cormorants being gobbled up by bald eagles? Well, the news source that can’t be linked to (AP), says it’s because there’s no fish left in Maine for the bald eagle to feed on, so they are eating cormorants.

In case you were worried, there’s no fish in Maine because man has destroyed them all. (The source that can’t be linked to says so.)

Did you know that Maine is the southern most fringe of the range of great cormorants? Me either. Let’s not confuse the great cormorant with the double-crested cormorant that have turned into a nuisance bird in some places, wiping out fisheries.

Why couldn’t those bald eagles have picked on the double-crested cormorant? We could afford to lose a few of those.
