The caption for this photo, sent to me by a reader, is that the coyote clinging to the tailgate of the back of this pick-up, is a stuffed version, done by a taxidermist. Nice job and nice joke.
Neither coyotes or foxes are dumb animals…and coyotes are smarter than foxes, but I still remember back in the 60′s when I was watching a fox being chased by the hounds as I was driving home one day…The fox and the hounds were paralleling the road I was driving on, and the field were clear, so I kept watching as I drove along…and kept noticing that the hound were slowly but surely gaining on the fox..I suddenly knew what the fox had in mind, and that was exactly what the fox did! As I kept driving along, the fox was pacing the hounds and gradually and imperceptibly closing their parallel paths with mine…..until when at the perfect time, the fox crossed directly in front of me, and the hounds followed….The thing was, the fox had it all timed to perfection! For just after he crossed in front of my truck, the hounds did too….and I almost ran over the hounds, as they were unaware of my truck, since they were closing in so close to the fox, they were oblivious….! So the hounds were scattered like a covey of quail, almost getting hit, and totally rattled…………and the fox continued on his merry way, without the escort of the pack, he had almost led to their destruction…..That was one smart critter! And I saw it coming all along, and still couldn’t believe it!
