Whoa! 4 cubs! Geez the habitat and reproduction rates must be healthy for the bears.

Don’t waste your time coming to hunt bears in Wyoming’s unit 9. Unlike Maine Wyoming has quota of three females in the fall archery season which on the regs last thirty days ( not) the quota this year was filled in three days and last year in five and if there is a overage it goes on next years count.
Hunters shooting 70 pd. females and wonder why they can’t kill a big bear. Because they shoot the first thing with fur on it that hits the bait. And everybody complains about there being so many bears here and all the damage they do.
Then quit shooting the first little bear you see. What a joke.

Yes,Tom..we didn’t even put a dent in the population:-D.The biggest was 210 lbs, then 170,150 and one 110 lbs.Anything under 100..those would be “cubs” The sow with the 4 cubs went well over 400 lbs ~she was huge and I could see why she had so many cubs. The cubs were TEENY but I am sure some “flatlander” probably would have shot this momma but thats a no-no in our camp! I saw a total of 8 bear. Sounds like your unhappy hunting Wyoming(unit 9) bear Jim.. and not sure how you can tell a female black bear from a male black bear if there are no cubs.Maybe you have a trick some don’t know about. If “culling” because of vast numbers in that unit, then usually its anything goes and size usually doesn’t matter where as the small get big and breed too. They did that here for deer on an island off the coast becasue the isalnders were complaining that they were eating their flowers and anything els they could find but instead of using our own bowhunters, they hired sharp shooters from NY.Sounds like some educated idiots behind that thought process,LOL!

oops..excuse the typo’s~

We seem to have bears all over the place this year in North Idaho. We’ve been seeing 3 different bear out of our elk stand for the last two weeks. One about 120lbs. one around 200, and a real stud that will go close to 400. My son and I both have tags and don’t want to shoot anything under 300 but even when the big fella comes by I can’t seem to shoot him. One is we don’t eat bear and the main reason is I hate to screw up a good archery elk hunt having to take care of a bear. We’ve got 4 different bulls on the trail cam, guess if they go away I’ll have to learn how to eat bear meat
