We haven’t done one of these “Whatzits” in awhile and Milt sends us two photos of a contraption that makes something. Do you know what this machine is used for making? Enter your ideas below in the comments section and within a few days, we’ll tell you the answer.

It’s dangerous. and looks like it’s turned around backwards for an operator, should he be brave enough. Don’t ever wear gloves or clothing(loose). Shaping-bits really gobble them up.

I hate not being able to figure these things out.

How about a barrel bottom and top maker; shaper, router for the ends of the staves.

It seems that somewhere along the line a photo got misplaced which would have “given it away”. It is a barrel saw! Not that I know what a barrel saw saws but it’s a barrel saw.

If I find the other photo, I’ll post it back up here.

I suspect that a barrel saw saws staves…..for the sides of a barrel are made of thin boards that fit together, and are clamped in place with steel bands. Now, where is the “rest of the story”?’
My guess would have been a jig for forming stovepipes….
