The timing of the “hack” should send up a red flag that someone wanted this information released prior to the grand summit meeting on global climate coming up in a short time in Copenhagen, Denmark. Therefore, it requires few brains to determine this wasn’t a “hack” in the classic sense of what a computer hack is. Whoever pulled this information had a pretty good idea what they were looking for and it’s my guess it was more of a “copy and paste” escapade than a hack. But let’s be honest, hack makes the Climate Research Unit sound to be more of a victim and less an agency caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
If laws were broken to obtain this information then whoever is responsible should be prosecuted. Attempts to legally obtain this information were stalled, which I believe has played a role in the option to “hack” into the system illegally.
While some are rushing to flame the “smoking gun”, others are just as quickly driving the tanker truck to the scene to extinguish the fire. Unfortunately for the rest of us , the truth will be spun and twisted and we will never know what was truth. And therein lies the real crime of what is before us and has been for some time now.
The issue of climate change, whether man-made or natural, stands to put a lot of money in the pockets of a few people. That’s why this has nothing at all to do with science and everything to do with deception and greed. Let’s not be so naive as to think this has only come to our attention with the climate debate. No, this has been a problem ever since government began handing out money for “scientific research”. One of the problems with this is the lack of any incentive to find a solution. In other words, the money dries up and someone is out of a job.
Climate change is different in that if someone can show that man is the culprit, we can punish them by making them pay, in more ways than most of us have had time to discover.
While writers at the New York Times and Huffington Post play down the importance of what is contained in the documents released, others from the skeptics’ side, like Climate Depot, are eager to exploit and brandish the so called smoking gun. All sides should be seeking truth.
As much as I would like to see something that shows crooked scientists for the purpose of disproving the theory of anthropogenic global warming, this event is only the tip of the iceberg. Science and research, along with all its credibility, is in danger of being destroyed. Where would that leave us?
Keith Johnson in the Wall Street Journal tells us that one email found in the well over one thousand released, reveals the concern of one scientist about what is happening.
One email from 1999, titled “CENSORED!!!!!” showed one U.S.-based scientist uncomfortable with such tactics. “As for thinking that it is ‘Better that nothing appear, than something unacceptable to us’ … as though we are the gatekeepers of all that is acceptable in the world of paleoclimatology seems amazingly arrogant. Science moves forward whether we agree with individual articles or not,” the email said.
If our science world was so innocent!
I have said since the beginning that when those led by Al Gore, began traveling the globe telling the world that the science was settled on climate change, the real danger became the stifling of scientific research and discovery. We can never assume science is “settled”, whatever that means. It says we have stopped looking for answers and this comes at a time when science is only in the beginning stages of learning about climate and what influences it.
This all goes far beyond the simple discussions of who or what is to blame for climate change.
But if we now are seeing that science is becoming or has already become as corrupt as our political system, then where do we go from here. The people’s trust of academia will be seriously eroded and they will turn their backs on science in the same fashion as they have turned their backs on our corrupt political machine.
Our Congress enjoys an embarrassing 26% approval rating and much of that is because no American can trust in the words that flow out of their corrupted mouths. Is this what we want from science?
Like sheep, we have had it drummed into our heads how and what to do about early detection of cancer in ourselves. Now, coming only days before a government run health care program is being proposed before Congress, our “scientists” tell us we don’t have to do that anymore. Is the timing of this merely coincidental?
Unfortunately, too many Americans have gotten lazy and they rely upon government and the science world to spoon fed them. Lazy or not, they can with the drop of a hat, lose their trust in government and in this case science.
If humans are destroying the planet because of their everyday living standards, the only way we are ever going to know for certain and what to do about that is to make sure the science research is wide open and honest. This cannot be done by demonizing and attempting to destroy the credibility of every scientist who doesn’t agree. Nor can it happen by working to cover up evil because it doesn’t fit our narrative.
If scientists are lying and covering up the truth about what they have discovered for political, economic or some other reason, isn’t truth what we want to find out? Why is the truth so scary for so many people? Never mind. I already know the answer to that.
My prediction as to what will transpire in regards to these “hacked” documents is that it will pretty much follow the path of everything else these days. The liberal media will sweep it under a rug because it doesn’t neatly fit into the narrative. Those willing to take up any discussion on it will be efforts to demonize the skeptics of global warming and put all their focus on who hacked into the computer system and none in finding whether this information holds any truth.
It’s business as usual and as for me, I have one more reason to add to my long list of why nothing that is uttered by any politician or anyone connected in anyway to government holds truth.
It’s a very sad day for humanity.
