Here is a release that took place when the birds were four weeks old. We released over 6000 this last spring. It was quite an experience this fall hunting the areas that were used. The hens seemed to be in an abundance at the end of the season. One surrogator had only 7 melinstic (black plumage) birds and our local magistrate judge killed 3 of the roosters, two weeks into the pheasant season, in an area that everyone has access. That is a pretty good survival rate to their 1st pheasant season. Predator control, nesting&brooding habitat are vital. The egg stage of nesting, and the first 4 weeks of life these birds are very vulnerable. With some education shared with farmers about this period and the role they play, we can make pheasant hunting what it should be. Everyone needs to help monetarily or physically.
