We have a whole house fan just up over the moose’s head. I caught him snoozin’ under the warmth of it and reluctant to leave his spot. They do that, snooze in town, during the day. I think they feel safer that way.

Meat for a year, delivered to your door! Never eaten moose, but I hear it’s real good….do they lose their horns every year, like deer?

Moose r us. they hang like cows and wander thru town. and ‘appear’ very dosile, until the rut. getting between the he and she during that time is not a good idea. Taking pictures is easy – to a degree. Like a horse pins his ears, moose too, so, pay attention.

I’ve never seen anyone ride one but i thot of it…., once.

They shed annually and a good set of sheds will fetch a pretty penny. Moose is excellent table fare. People who don’t like it, more than likely, like most wild game, didn’t prepare it properly.

Bet if they’re neutered, they’re real docile…probably taste better, too! Don’t know anyone who wants to try doing that though…..That’s one heck of a butchering job….

It’s that time of year jes when it’s always dark up there in Alaska, aka the bluish tint.

Years ago, Canadians in particular used to train moose to pull wagons, etc. They said it worked pretty good until ruttin season rolled around. Geez somewhere in amongst my near 5,000 posts on this blog there is one about trained moose with some pictures. Been up for a few years. I’ll have to see if I can locate it.

Those are nice pictures. The moose looks like it is in no hurry at all.

Chain saws help in quartering it. Even when it’s a roadside kill, it’s very difficult loading it on a trailor.

I would like to see pastures of moose (and cows) for food. We make spagetti sauce and roasts. cut em with a fork and not gamie tasting; unless i am just used to it but venison has more of it than moose does. Tom is right, if it’s not prepared right…..

Jes, the sun is just up at 10:30 today; down at 4:20 and gaining… That was taken about dawn – 10:00 am, looking directly east. The sun comes up in the southeast. So, for those hours, the sun moves across the mountain tops in the south and sets in the south, west. yahoo.

Fairbanks has a strong darkness. Lots of people wear head-lamps all day for a 4 hour daylight. There’s more light at full moon. (blink blink)
