Idaho Wolf Hunt Success Rate

I think if they don’t get relisted you’ll still see people buying wolf tags. They’re cheap enough that guy will buy them just in case. Kind of like cat and bear tags. Hopefully they don’t think with low success that there are not as many wolves as they thought. I think there are more than they think but the wolves have seemed to go more nocturnal.

I bet the wolf eating elk success rate was much higher.

In my mind the license fee that purchase deer or elk tags should automatically include a wolf tag. Any revenue to perpetuate wolftopia is a waste of time. Hunters should not be responsible for the continued funding to now deplete our big game herds.If wolf idolizers want them they should fund all expense involved to manage them. if they cant afford it then eliminate them.

In my mind the wolf should be lowered to the status of the coyote.

And why do you feel that the wolf and coyote should have such a low status? What do you have against the coyote in addition to the wolf? You claim to have processed about 50 elk and deer over the past 40 years. Have you not had enough meat to eat over those years? If not, why not? Have you read any of the Roy M. Halverson posts on the Ralph Maughan Wildlife Pages recently?

Just out of curiousity what do you have against foxes? Pointy teeth; bushy tails or – - OH, it must be that they are carnivores and present a threat to your game hunting opportunities? They do eat rats.

And will you kill one of each species for each post or only as the opportunity occurs? I would think that coyotes would be more readily available. And since Wildlife Services kills thousands per year have at it! You won’t make a dent in the population of this predator. And in Idaho WS kills hundreds of wolves so again not much problem. I hope you kill wolves out of season – you may already do that – then if caught you could be prosecuted. I shall start posting here in April after the wolf season closes. As for killing a fox in retribution for human comments, WHY? You are not a rational person but spitefull!

Haa ! Lee, I knew you did not care for predators at all.. I would enjoy seeing the sage grouse make a come back around here, the antelope, the mule deer, wouldn’t it be wonderful if those 600 elk still ranged back of the house as well.. I often watched a cougar slinking through the sage, lovely sight it was, now the poor buggers are citified pet munchers, where they are close to trees. I miss the elk creek herd wintering at elk creek, I miss the Muldoon creek herd wintering near Muldoon canyon, and Bell mountain, we used to spy the cougar out there quite often.. I miss the Carey Lake elk herd wintering on the range.. I just can not understand why raccoons and foxes drop by begging for turkey slices, all that abundant wild game out there for them..

The hunting season for wolves proves hunting them will not effect the wolf any more than it would or has effected the coyotes.

This entire charade the maughanites put on about wolves making the world all perfecto mundo reminds me of some engineering firms I worked for, the firm would draw up architectural drawings of multi million dollar homes and we would point out the areas where they were in error in those structural and mechanical theories they had put on paper. They would deny this as nonsense and order it built. Later when the problems predicted arose concerning the architectural and mechanical errors they would except the needed changes recommended, to correct their error. One engineering firm would do this repeatedly, home after home. The men and ladies doing the architectural drawings could not except the fact that the sub contractors and even the contractor were qualified to foresee and or predict problems structurally and or mechanically. Once these extra costs to repair the mistakes were presented to mister billionaire home owner he would be quite mad, the engineering firm always blamed us, this would end up in court and the engineering firms insurance company would take the hit, eventually.. The engineering firms even to the dismall end are never ever wrong. I notice several of these super smart arrogant pricks are out of business today..

Carnivores have an acute sense of smell. I think it more likely that foxes sense your stink than you theirs.

As intelligent as man has the capability to be, you would think man could mine a valuable resource and protect the lands and habitat around the mine. Depending on the metal resource in question in that area also. Saw a real interesting PBS on the beginnings of the National Parks systems. Included the extermination of wolves as part of the policy back in the infancy of the Parks’ systems.

I honestly can’t give you a logical response to all of this because all of my knowledge is second hand. I go by what I’ve read, not what I’ve experienced. It sounds to me like there are many here that have better first hand knowledge than myself. I admire the wolf. But I don’t have to live with him. I don’t think he should be exterminated. But I am not losing a living to the wolf either. So I’m kind of a fence sitter, smart enough not to impose my ‘feelings’ on those that are going through things. I don’t like hunting. That could stem from ignorance, I’ve never been hunting. I kinda cringe at killing something but who knows how I’d feel if that was the difference between eating and not eating? I do however appreciate what all of you are putting forth here which is why I keep coming back. I’m learning. That can never be a bad thing.

You passed these photos off on us before, once again can you prove the dates are accurate, instead of late summer, were they taken in early spring ? Marvel and Maughan learned how to cheat on the time frames of their photographic time frames someplace, maybe George did to.

It’s pretty easy for me to find validity in what you say Jes. I see the coyote problem. Talk about a need for control! Experts here say that we could trap and kill them in the suburbs where there is the most need, but others will just move in and take their place. We have people crying no no no, don’t hurt the coyotes, learn to live with them but they are such an adaptable animal that they are everywhere and in such an abundance some say it’s at a critical point.

Thanks for the well wishes, I’ve had some complications with bronchitis which aggrivated my asthma. Still not sure if the meds or lack of oxygen are making me more loppy than normal! I’m on the mend though and that’s what counts.

The people commenting on this blog are predominantly hunters and do not like the competition that predators pose for their desired target – ungulates – primarily deer and elk. They don’t give a damn about native bison, big horn sheep, or goats. Bison, of all native species, should be allowed to occupy many areas in the west and provide more hunting opportunities for those who so desire. But the cattle industry dominates the management of bison in Montana. One could ask why not the Montana Department of FGP?

And it amazes me that Greg always talks about doing stuff in the Frank Church Wilderness and the Sawtooth Wilderness and then bashes the feds for “owning this land”.

When I was younger, and rattlers were more prevalent, I caught and sold enough to afford my outdoor activities. I live in The UP! You need to get your facts straight dude! There are niether wolverines nor elk in the upper penn. They have free ranging elk in the lower penn. and up until last week one female wolverine but it was found dead and thought to be a released pet. The UP needs a wolf hunt. They pull a lot of deer down. I don’t think they should be eliminated by any stretch. But just like any animal they are bad for the environment if they go unchecked. If you want people to take you seriously you need to get your head in the game.
