I lived in Idaho when the wolves were "reintroduced" to Yellowstone. I remember being alarmed at the time and followed their activities closely. Near our cabin on the Henry's Fork, a pack of wolves surrounded my neighbor and his dog, one January night.

I now live on the Olympic Peninsula in WA State. I was appalled in January when I read in the paper that the bright-eyed young scientists were going to eventually trap some of the wolves that had appeared in eastern Washington and introduce them in the Olympic Mountains. They carefully explained it would not be a "reintroduction" because the wolves are already in WA--they appeared in eastern Washington on their own!

There was a small public hearing which I was not able to attend. It was announced quietly during the holidays. Most who attended had the romantic notion that it would be so neat to hear the wolves howling at night. I sent a written comment, but I have a feeling this "introduction" is going to take place quietly without anyone knowing.

I would LOVE for some of you to follow up on the possible introduction of wolves to the Olympics and perhaps we could have more education available to the people on the Olympic Peninsula. I could not believe Mech's cavalier statement of the "tempest in a teapot."

Thank you for posting this informative panel discussion. I am going to send it to an attorney friend who loves to get involved in things that deceive the public.

I attended the rally in Jackson Hole this past weekend. I also visited the Refuge as well.I am completely amazed by the lack of elk in their Winter range. I know there will no doubt be many excuses for this phenomenon, but nothing can compare to witnessing it with your own eyes. We traveled to the North to see if by chance some of the migrating herds were out of range, and we were not seeing them. What we found was absolutely no tracks anywhere. I filmed the entire weekend, and I will be posting some of the clips on my You Tube Site. The video can be made available for anyone who would like a copy, and you attended the rally. Some of the speakers know already, but if you didn't, reply to this post.

We do have a very similar situation in Scandinavia, only difference is the "scientists" denies having performed any re-introduction, although there are witnesses to the opposite and wolves in Scandinavia were considered extinct. Until now Norway/Sweden have been free from tapeworm recent wolves have infected moose and reindeer in Finland close to the Swedish border with e. granulosus. Despite this the Swedish government plans to facilitate for wolves from Finland and Russia to migrate into Sweden/Norway. Like in the US it was young mindless PhD:s who planned and performed the re-introduction, in Sweden WWF has been very active in this destruction of rural Sweden. In Norway they only permit wolves in a small area facing the Swedish border. In Scandinavia hunter use dogs specially trained for moose, roedeer, fox etc., but with wolves on the loose all hunting with dogs are to dangerous for the dogs, many dogs are killed by wolves each year. I do hope we somehow can support each other in this struggle. The referred website is not mine, its title translated in English is The Revolt Against the Wolves.
