The below picture was taken across the pond in Greenwood City, Maine early in the morning, just as daylight was beginning to happen (This explains the grainy picture). It is typical in the spring of the year to see moose looking pretty darn shabby as they begin shedding their winter coat in exchange for a darker, thinner layer. However, this moose appears to be a little bit chewed up in my opinion, near the front shoulders, perhaps the effects of winter ticks which can chew a moose to bits, suck out all of its blood and eventually kill it.

Or perhaps it’s just the way the early morning light is.
