In what is probably one of the most disingenuous comments made by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in awhile and yet doesn’t really come as a surprise to anyone, Ed Bangs, the guy at USFWS who keeps “moving the goal posts”, said that’s his job.

“The bottom line is, by law, the Fish and Wildlife Service is required to use the best available science,” he said. “We’re mandated if there’s new information that indicates the recovery goal should be lower or higher to look at that.

There’s really two problems with that statement, aimed clearly at Bangs struggle for an explanation as to why the wolf advocates, Bangs being one of them, are never satisfied with the number of wolves and probably never will be.

The first is that Bangs says he is required by law to use the best available science. The problem with this is when you cherry pick the science that fits the narrative, are we really utilizing the best available science. It has been proven time and time again that the feds completely ignored scientific evidence before introduction of wolves and they still are. They refused to examine disease in the early 90s and they are living in denial over it. The argument of “best available science” is a cop out and a lie but a handy tool for the feds and environmentalist in combating sound wildlife management that runs counter to their objectives.

The second issue deals with the lying and deception that took place prior to introduction of wolves. If it is true that Ed Bangs is supposed to move the goal posts all around, then show me where in the Final Environmental Impact Statement and any other places where information was made available to the citizens of Idaho, Wyoming and Montana that the target numbers for wolves wouldn’t be adhered to because by the time that happens “best available science” will demand ten times the number of wolves. The truth is, it can’t be shown because it was never discussed, like so many other issues.

In reality, this is federal bureaucracy at work. They believe they can change all the rules in a way that nicely fits into their agendas and we have allowed them to get away with it. Well, those days are behind us now and there are far too many people who have been educated to the truth that they are not interested in hearing Ed Bangs’ or anybody else rave on about their “legal” obligations to change rules, move goal posts and continue to hide facts from the people.

June 15, 2010, the day Judge Donald Molloy will hear arguments on whether to put the wolf back under protection of the federal government, is right around the corner. Bangs is dusting off is rhetoric and practicing up on manipulating the media for his benefit and to save his own hide. In the meantime, efforts are underway in big fashion to expose Bangs and all the other participants in wolf recovery, for the fraudulent event that it was.

Stay tuned as this is bound to get ugly before it gets better.
