Most people used to say there was seven kinds of meat in the turtle, but you could probably say the same thing for a chicken... I think all the parts taste pretty much alike, and it depends on how you cook it and handle it, as much as anything.... I always thought the most unusual thing about turtles, was not the taste, which is whatever your taste says it is, but the way the eggs don't get hard like a chicken egg..The yolk gets kinda grainy, and the "white" just stays soft, no matter how long you cook it.... One of the most depressed areas they've ever seen. They were with one of the men in charge when he stopped the work truck because he saw a turtle on the side of the road. He told the kids that was going to be dinner. They didn't believe him...until he had them try his turtle soup! I don't remember if they said it tasted like chicken soup though... I'm glad your grandson still has all his toes! The largest turtle I ever saw was in Maine at a pond east of Brownfield. It could not lay flat in the bottom of a large garbage can. It amazed me how it could have its head drawn in and lunge with agility toward an object ( in my case people). My two favorite critters in the biology lab, in Maine, were a young, about 1.5 inches long snapper, locally collected, and a 5" caiman that I had in the same aqua-land water tank.
