Finally, the NRA has posted an official statement in opposition to the nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court. The NRA states that after “carefully examin[ing]” aspects of Kagan they have found nothing that indicates she supports the Second Amendment.

I am still puzzled as to why the NRA waited so long to do this and that puzzlement is further supported in much of what is written in their statement. With the exception of citing a comment Kagan made during Senate testimony, all disqualifying positions referenced occurred long before any Senate hearings.

The NRA has taken their position and we still remain with unanswered questions. For gun rights advocates we are grateful for the NRA taking a position against Elena Kagan’s nomination but some of us are left wondering what would have transpired had there not been an outcry about controversial actions and lack of actions taken by the NRA.

Now we hear rumors of a filibuster in order to block Kagan’s nomination.
